Study finds B-Strong and KAATSU bands produce similar leg blood flow

A study published Nov. 4 compared blood-flow restriction (BFR) bands from B-Strong and KAATSU in 40 healthy young adults. It found similar responses between bands but significant differences across four tested pressures.

The Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research published a study on Nov. 4 comparing B-Strong and KAATSU blood-flow restriction (BFR) bands in the leg. Researchers used ultrasound to measure leg blood flow at 200, 300, 400 and 500 mm Hg in 40 healthy young adults, including 20 men and 20 women.1

The study found no significant overall difference by band, while blood-flow responses differed significantly between every pair of tested pressures. At 500 mm Hg, neither band consistently occluded superficial femoral artery blood flow across all participants.1

Because the study measured acute blood-flow responses rather than training outcomes, it did not establish whether either band produced better strength or muscle gains.1
