Samsung adds sleep-apnea risk detection to Galaxy Ring
Samsung said its updated Sleep Apnea feature was available on Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring after U.S. FDA clearance and approval from Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). The update brought sleep-apnea risk detection to a smart ring for the first time, the company said.

Samsung Electronics said on November 3 that its updated Sleep Apnea feature was available on Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring. The update followed U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance in July and approval from Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), and made the feature available on a smart ring for the first time, Samsung said.1
The feature, available through the Samsung Health Monitor app, analyzed sleep-time vital signs and added information about detected breathing disruptions beyond the previous risk assessment. Samsung said users could get insight from two nights of monitoring within a 10-day period.1
The feature was intended to detect signs of moderate-to-severe sleep apnea in users 18 and older, was not intended for people already diagnosed with sleep apnea, and required two nights of valid data within 10 days. For trainers fielding questions about sleep tracking, Samsung said the feature should not replace diagnosis or treatment by a qualified clinician.1
