Mark Mastrov to be inducted into Health & Fitness Association Hall of Fame on March 10
Mark Mastrov will be inducted into the Health & Fitness Association (HFA) Hall of Fame on March 10 during the opening night of The HFA Show 2027 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, the association said. The association said Mastrov is the founder of 24 Hour Fitness.
Mastrov entered the fitness business in 1983 after borrowing $15,000 from his grandmother to become an equity partner in a California gym, the Health & Fitness Association (HFA) said. In 2005, Mastrov and his partners sold 24 Hour Fitness for $1.68 billion, the association said. By 2005, 24 Hour Fitness had 420 clubs in 16 states, 26 clubs in Asia, and more than 4.5 million members, according to the association.1
In 2008, Mastrov left 24 Hour Fitness and led the purchase of Crunch Gyms, the association said. Mastrov co-founded New Evolution Ventures and helped launch, develop, invest in and support UFC Gym, US Fitness and Energy Fitness, the association said. The association said Mastrov developed and operated businesses in more than 50 countries worldwide. In 2026, Mastrov returned as an owner of 24 Hour Fitness in partnership with LongRange Capital, the association said.1
Mastrov is now focused on reinvesting in 24 Hour Fitness, strengthening its clubs and teams, expanding amenities, and preparing the brand for its next phase.1
The Health & Fitness Association said Augie Nieto was diagnosed with ALS. Mastrov helped create the BASH fundraiser in 2006, the association said. Augie’s Quest to Cure ALS has raised more than $220 million for ALS research, according to the association.1
Greta Wagner said Mark’s influence on the industry extends far beyond the businesses he has built and that he has pushed the industry forward while creating opportunities for others to lead, grow and succeed.1
The association said that for the first time, the HFA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner will take place immediately after The HFA Show Kick-Off Party. Tickets to the ceremony are available as an add-on to registration for The HFA Show, which takes place March 10–12 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, the association said. Proceeds from HFA Hall of Fame ticket sales benefit the HFA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity supporting industry research and grants for HFA members who offer programs to build healthier communities, the association said.1
